  • It sounds like you're either missing a codec (coder-decoder), or you have corrupt file on your hands. Every different type of file requires a different codec. If you haven't played this type of file before, the codec may never have been installed. There are a couple of things you can try - 1) Try playing a different, known good, file of a different file type (.wmv, .avi, .mpg, etc.) If the other file plays fine, then you know Media Player is fine. 2) Try playing a different, known good, file of the same type (same extension). If the known good file of the same extension plays fine, the file that won't play is most likely a corrupt. 3) If you have no other files of this type, you're most likely missing the required codec. If this is the case, do a Google search for Media Player Codec and whatever file extension it is you're trying to play. Google should return a number of sites you can download and install the missing codec from within a few seconds. Cheers...!
