  • Yes they are. It seems to run in cycles, the scope or size of this problem in the US. Many of the gangs are imported from overseas. Consider this quote, "Once found principally in large cities, violent street gangs now affect public safety, community image, and quality of life in communities of all sizes in urban, suburban, and rural areas. No region of the United States is untouched by gangs. Gangs affect society at all levels, causing heightened fears for safety, violence, and economic costs" (2005 National Gang Threat Assessment, National Alliance of Gang Investigators Associations, 2005)." • yes indeed. "oakland,CA my former hometown, was over run by gangs..drugs, shootings, graffiti, and neighborhood blight..it still is murder capitol of northern california..a grim reminder of what today's youth has done. the month of sept recorded 100 homicides. iam now living in a coastal community, away from the chaos and mayhem. the police dept is under staffed and out numbered..why, even the small affluent communities are being terrorized by roaming gangs..we cant escape it..all i can say is, we need more cops on the beat. and possibly curfews..to quell our raucous youth of today's society.
  • Not as big a problem as the gang in Washington DC.
  • Dude, I lived in Lynchburg, Virginia for four years--where's that, you ask? My point exactly. It was OVERRUN with gangs. There were certain colors you couldn't wear out, shoes over power lines, shoot outs at the gas stations... grrrrreat. I haven't found any in my new living area, but I'm sure they're here. They're where I grew up... that's another place I'm sure you've never heard of. Again with the shoes over the power lines. I driving to lunch from where I worked (less than a block) I could see two drug deals and a robbery at gun-point any time. I knew some of the police from that area who confirmed that it is a total mess. It's really, really frightening sometimes.
