Was he the "Ever eat a pine cone? Many parts are edible" guy?

From Wikipedia: His publishing success brought him a level of fame. He made guest appearances on The Johnny Carson Show and the Sonny & Cher show. He was awarded an honorary doctorate from Susquehanna University, even though he had only completed the equivalent of a sixth-grade education. The Post Grape Nuts cereal advertising quote "Ever eat a pine tree? Many parts are edible." is attributed to him (and inspired Carson to joke about sending him a "lumber-gram").

"Reminds me of the taste of wild hickory nuts!" Mr. Gibbons was the Wild foods guru. I've eaten a lot of wild food. A lot of it tastes good. We used to get wild asparagus out of my Grandparents field. So good! Elderberries are good if you cook them. Wild dock leaves look like spinich when you cook them, but are bland. Dandelion leaves are OK, but bitter ("why is this plant different from every other plant?") Acorns from a white oak tree are good tasting. Other acorns are bitter and you have to soak them to get the tannin out.
