  • Its up to you, as a parent you can explain to him the difference between "good" and "bad" drugs :-)
  • It really depends on how much he understands the danger of taking drugs. He has first-hand knowledge of how this affects his consciousness, and knows it's pretty safe to take thos. So he has to know that although other drugs can affect his mental state as well, they can be highly dangerous because of it's addiction properties as well as the dangers of unknown origins.
  • I hope not for both your sakes.. Just talk to him.. That seems to work.
  • it just depends who his friends are and what drugs are available. the teenage years are tough on any parent.
  • Probably not... less likely in fact, if he's smart he'll look up effects of mixing them together if he's going to... to make sure that they won't hurt him because of it... My friend did that for me, i'm glad i might not be here now otherwise...
  • The best EVIDENCE in response to your question is that children with ADHD who have been on medication during childhood are no more likely than other children to use drugs in adolescence/ adulthood. ADHD Children who were NOT on medication are at an increased risk for later drug use. This is probably due to a range of factors that impact on children and young people with ADHD, that are also associated with incresed liklihood of drug use. For example, difficulty with social skills, problems relating to peers, poor academic achievemnet, poor self esteem etc etc. DON'T use fears of later drug use as an excuse to avoid looking into the EVIDENCE relating to medication, because there is simply no evidence to suggest that children are are greater risk for future drug use. In fact the evidence is just the opposite.
  • I believe the general consensus in the field of pediatric psychiatry (according to what I've read) is that the answer is no. I understand that ADHD kids who are on a THERAPEUTIC medication (meaning one that is working for them and helping them) are less likely to feel the need to experiment with drugs. If a kid is hurting, because he's frustrated at his inability to focus, or whatever, then he's more likely to be drawn to illegal drugs in the hope that it'll make it better. If his medication is helping with that, then that's one less stress in his life. My 10 year old is on a mood stabilizer, and before he was on that, as a 7 year old, he was really hurting. He was suicidal some days and totally without any fear on others. It was frightening for both of us. I'm sure if he didn't have medication to help him, he would be very vulnerable to the lure of any drug that would make him feel different. (His medication lets him be his natural, sweet, smart self, instead of the angry, scared person that had taken over. I used to be judgemental towards parents whose kids are on meds, but never again. You can't know until you've been there, for anyone who is feeling like judgemental.)
  • from my experience with ppl he will do drugs just from the adhd... and watch out when hes old enough that he doesn't sell his adhd meds.... talk to him a lot about it, u can stop wat could happen
