i do not belive it would become a star. It takes momentous amounts of energy to create a star (even a brown dwarf). I think that as big as Jupiter is it does not have the mass or elements required to create and maintain a star status. There would definately be some sort of gravitational shift, gravity would act up both the sun and other planets - including saturn. There is usually only one planet of such size in a solar system (i wont go into that though) and so i belive that if it could have been a star, it would have. It is possible to have another star in the system but they would eventually act upon each other to become one (or a huge explosian) It is doubtful that Jupiter can ever become a star, a fusion bobm just would do it, it would take so much more. Any explosion would be uncontrolled and unstable - no star. :-)

wow ..tough and interesting question... way beyond my abilities to think

If such a thing were possible, it would not be necessary to use a fusion bomb. A fission bomb would be sufficient. Jupiter itself would provide the hydrogen. There would be no need for the bomb to carry any.
