It exploded. What exploded? Nothing exploded? It takes more faith to believe in that than it does to believe that God is the Creator of the Universe.
-
Nothingness could expand into a material universe,or antimatter could turn into matter. We already know black holes exist in space and we don't know what is in them, and could be antimatter.
-
yep thats about right .It went bang .Alright you?
-
Nope. That's a common misconception often repeated by Christians who want a straw man to knock down. - The Big Bang theory states that prior to the bang bit, there was a singularity and that is something through which no useful information can pass. - So - to put it in the very simplest terms - before the bang there was an unknown. But that is VERY different from the theory stating that there was nothing.
-
Yes. In the beginning there was nothing -- except perhaps God (a singularity?). The "Big Bang theory" sounds almost Biblical to me.
-
No no no. In the beginning, God said 'let there be light' and -BANG- there was light. And other wavelengths, and quarks, muons, mesons, etc. Speech is vibration, and 'strings' vibrate. The strings formed 'branes', which scientists tell us collided to instigate the big bang.

funny story about tha see ther was supposed to be something to explode ...but we dont know where THAT came from
-
As 23Skidoo said, there was a singularity. Some scientists believe that it was the previous universe, smooshed into a single point. The Big Smoosh, to quote Stephen Hawking.

there are books and books about this topic. try Parallel Universes:The Search for Other Worlds by Fred Alan Wolf.

Well look at it this way, The big bang is the theory that for me is hardest to believe. Science and physics are two of my biggest interests but the only thing that science has told me that I don't quite understand HOW to believe is the big bang. Now look at the universe. Alot of things in the universe are 'MISTAKES' or so we can call them. For example: Organic life is a univeral boo boo! I mean its AMAZING that it exists(we exist)! so whats there to say the UNIVERSE isnt a big mistake? Quantum mechanics, as NONE mechanical as they are, are said to be the only truly RANDOM thing in the universe as opposed to the laws of physics which are mechanical in every way conceivable. Life happened because of them! It was random! So if there was once a massive singularity then something went 'UH OH WOOPSIE!' and we had a big explosion and then TA DA! Existence came into...existence. Now where else in the universe do we see singularities...or atleast think we see them? YAY! BLACK HOLES! 'So lets see, since matter cannot be created or destroyed then we can just compress it into a new singularity' says the universe! Because for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. so the big bang's equal and opposite reaction could be the solution of re-compression via black holes! And then we can add to my crack pot theory that the laws of physics play a role in re-compression. Magnetism, Strong, Weak, and Gravity all help make suns get bigger, reach critical mass, implode, make black holes, and then help suck everything into them! So lets conclude! The Universe was a singluarity that went OOPSIE and exploded and now is gathering itself up again and might have done this who knows how many times since um the beginning of time...most likely several billion times.

ROFL! five points! : )

No. And no. There was not nothing, because nothing can't become something. Something can sometimes take a new form or phase, though. So just before the Big Bang it would seem that our space-time fabric didn't exist in its current state. All of the necessary energy to build it existed, just in a form that physics can't really explain yet. But that's OK, because at one time physics couldn't explain why we stuck to the ground either, but we've come a long way. Secondly, it wasn't so much an explosion in the normal sense of the word. It isn't that bits of matter and energy were flung through space and time, but rather space and time are expanding and dragging us all along with it. That is why the Universe can expand faster than the speed of light; it isn't that the planets and galaxies far away from us are TRAVELING away faster than the speed of light, for that isn't allowed by General Relativity, but that the space BETWEEN US is expanding.

Yeah, that's right. =P (I think it was Terry Pratchett who figured that out, but if anyone knows differently, please tell us.)

I heard the scientists' are working on duplicating the Big Bang Theory TODAY!True....false.....who knows?

I have been wondering if the big bang might have been the result of aability of empty space. Black Holes are presumably so powerful that they can suck in empty space (or so i've gathered), so that would mean empty space is more than just static nothingness, but has the ability to move. So since empty space can do something, and I dare guess that at the beginning (whatever and whenever it was) started out as just empty space. Maybe empty space compressed into a single point and blew up, I don't know. But these are just thoughts. I believe there was a big bang, created by God or not. And i do not believe the big bang necessarily was an explosion, but rather jsut the beginning of the known universe.
