  • Well the media did some digging about him over here, he spends most evenings in a hotel after shoots. Not that rough are we Bear.
  • He doesn't use the support system they do (clothing, food, etc.) And, he and a local survival expert are watching out for them. By the same token, it came to light that he was getting MUCH more help than originally mentioned in the show... Thus the disclaimers, and the change in voice-over to explain that "while there are plenty of makings for this raft/test/whatever, it would take one person too long, so the crew helped put this together." (I also think he's a bit narcisitic... He DOES mention "when I was in the special forces..." or some such almost every show. And at times, I think he does things just for the shock value.) Les Stroud (Survivorman) lugs his own cameras, takes his own shots, and produces his own show... His safety crew is relatively far away. He will climb a steep hill walking away from a camera, then go back for the camera. He will eat bugs and such, but not with near as much ... zeal(?) ... that Bear does. BOTH have experts... Just Bear has his along with him, and Les learns from an expert for about a week before he goes out to a location.
  • It's called acting. The scenes are set up in advance. This is an excerpt from a news report about it. "In one episode filmed in California's Sierra Nevada mountains he was shown biting off the head of a snake for breakfast and boasting that he was living on 'just a water bottle, a cup and a flint for making fire'. Viewers were not told that he was actually spending some nights in the Pines Resort hotel at Bass Lake, where the rooms have Internet access and is advertised as 'a cosy getaway for families' complete with blueberry pancakes for breakfast." There are many other similar examples here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bear_Grylls
  • bear grylls is soooo stupid and is fake! he sucks he sets up the whole scenes and acts like he is in terrible danger when hes not
  • always wondered the same thing.
  • greekgod: yes we know Bear spent a couple of nights in hotels or whatnot and yes I felt a bit decieved but heres the thing, when youre watching him repel down some slick ass waterfall or wading through some snake infested swamp theres no doubt that he does things that we cant/wouldn't do. Now, what I want to know is how the dude carrying the camera gets through the muddy swamp when Bear can barely get through? I find Bears information on the local plants/animals very educational and I'm stoked experiance all the locations the show takes us to, places I will probably never see in my life time. Thats why I still support Bear and the show. I love Survivor man equally as much, these guys are the shit!
  • I sometimes wonder that too, like if he is in a river or something.
  • The question is 'How do camera crews follow bear grylls..' and not if the danger is fake or not. But because I live in Europe and I spend so many hours at the mountains just like Bear and not as a hunter or something else (but not for whole days to need food, water and a place to sleep) I can say for sure that this is not fake and he is 100% in real danger. He getted so close to a brown bear at Romania that she could killed him if she was a mother, to protect her little bears. For these enviroments that I know for, I can say that he was in real danger.. For the desert, savana,Siberia etc I have no idea about the circumstanceses. PS sorry for my English :S
  • What the hell do you all know that man is a ledgend, I dont see any of you doing what he is doing. Why don't all of you just keep your big mouths shut and accusing him of things that you don't know is true or not.
