  • Just keep doing what you are doing. 10 lbs in a month is GREAT! If you lose weight any quicker you run the risk of not keeping it off and harming your metabolism.
  • Good for you! That's a great start - I would suggest that you give up soda, it's basically all sugar. Oh, and being a vegetarian is a great choice too. Stick with it :) best of luck ")
  • low carb anything - but please don't eliminate them from your diet. and high protein is good - almonds are a good snack. high cal but good protein and if you only eat a few of them at a time i've been told they actually modify your hunger [so i eat about 10 and then have a bunch of water. seems bland but my meals make up for it] uhm also. jogging. i hated it at first, but if you go for about 30 minutes at whatever your regular exercise habit is, and don't worry about stopping you'll build up to it...i swear your heart will be stronger, you'll be tired, but you'll feel great after a shower and a salad or soup. =)
  • Yea!!!! Another vegetarian!!! Funny, a friend showed me a photo of me from 5 years ago, and I was enormous - lost a ton when I resumed my vegetarian ways. I've dropped even more when I went vegan. Do you have any dogs? My dogs are more than happy to accompany me on walks every day. We do 2 miles, and are gearing up to move that to 3. I find that helps a great deal. Good luck in your move toward better health.
  • Just remember that you didn't gain the weight overnight, so you can't lose it overnight either. If the weight comes off slowly that is OK...that way it is more likely you can sustain the weight loss instead of losing it fast and gaining it back fast.
  • Try Chi Kung exercises ... they really burn calories ... http://www.healing-tao.com/tao-garden/universal/en/books/ .
  • I think the other posters here have made some good suggestions. I would add that you max out on fiber, such as whole grains, fruit, and veggies. If you eat bread each bag has a label listing the fiber content. Since fruit contains seeds it's probably the best source of fiber, especially those fruits with edible seeds. Blackberries and boysenberries have the highest fiber content of any food. It's also a good idea to pump a little iron or do some body-weight resistance exercises, such as modified push-ups, chin-ups, and leg-raises because increased muscle mass will actually accelerate your resting metabolic rate.
  • There is no safe, healthy way to lose weight fast. It is a long slow process. Walking, swimming, and biking are the best exercises. Eat mostly fruits, vegetables, and grains (bread/cereal)and drink a lot of water (l glass every hour, if you can)and try to avoid anything else. If you want flavor on your salads, mix the fruits and vegetables together, rather than add any dressings.
  • I'm also a vegetarian, and have enjoyed the newer choices out there for meal alternatives. Try the brand called "Quorn". Their products are fantastic and little to no fat. This brand is, in my opinion, far better than the other veggie brands on the market. No comparison! www.quorn.com ~ Remember that you didn't gain the weight ovenight, so don't expect to lose it that way either. Portion control, better/healthier food choices and exercise (consult your doc). Also, remember to eat - DO NOT starve yourself! Eat several times a day whenever you feel hungry but choose small snack items - don't go hungry because your body will think you're starving it and it will retain fat. Seriously. Also, CONGRATS on losing 10 lbs! That's awesome! Best of luck to you!
  • Sounds like you're doing great.1500 calories per day.Get a vegan cookbook.1hour walk per day regardless of the weather.45 minutes with free weights 5x week.Any book on a simple weight routine will explain it.Works like a charm.Good luck!
  • Well, a last April I was 18 and 224 pounds. Since then I've lost about 70 pounds on the Suddenly Slim diet. The name does sound silly, but it's a diet created by doctors, totally healthy, and revolutionary. And I don't even sell the products. They just worked. You can also follow the included meal plan if you're a vegetarian. Veggies are a huge part of the diet plan, but you can substitute the protein portions with tenpeh, tofu, etc. if you are interested, you can email me (emberline88@yahoo.com). I know how to get a discount price on a website I order the products from.
  • it will take awhile to lose the weight 4-7 pound per week. eat right, eat smaller portions, exercise. and remember you didn't put the weight on in a week, slow on, slow off.
  • Kepp up the good work! Im happy for you...I was really heavy before also in 2004 I weighed 340 Lbs right now I weigh 208 Lbs,I am 30 years old.I am gonna get down to 190 Lbs soon.
  • Congratulations on your January success Eleanor! Here is my advice that I've used to successfully mentor many: Eat 5-6 healthy, balanced meals a day, three hours apart (this alone has more power to boost your metabolism and burn fat than anything else you can do!) Most people are able to eat MORE calories and still lose weight. Focus your cardio on large muscle groups doing compound exercises (exercises that require two major muscles): squats, lunges, jumping jacks, step aerobics, kickboxing, etc. Women should focus on legs, glutes, back and abs. Begin weight lifting to add muscle mass that will require more calories to maintain, and help melt fat. Muscle is more dense than fat, so a pound of muscle takes up less space than a pound of fat, leaving you leaner and looking slimmer. Do sustained cardio at a safe level that challenges you for at least 45-60 minutes, at least 4x a week (more if you can handle it). Drink your water to stay hydrated as water is required for fat metabolism. These are the basics of how natural body builders lose fat and get super lean without losing muscle. You don't have to bulk up, but it really works! You can see burnthefat.com for the full plan you can individualize to your needs, or feel free to post to me for more tips. Oh, and take pictures...because you aren't going to believe the before and after! Good Luck!
  • TOTALLY AGREE!! 8-10lbs in a month is the good way to do it. YOu just have to eat good protiens which women do not get enough off, in your case soy burgers, try protein shakes since you do not eat meats. Workout even by just taking stairs instead of elvators, walking to the gas station instead of driving, go play golf instead of see a movie with friends. Just keep active, it will atleast stay at the 10lb rate and by next year you can drop 120lbs just by 10lbs a month. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. ALso try out a body forum to get help from people who are doing this too.

  • Women can lose 3 to 4 lbs a week and men lose 5 to 7 lbs a week safely on the Matol Diet. It is a scientific approach to weight loss that protects your muscle mass. It puts your pancreas to rest, lets it heal, and prevents cravings. I've lost 65 lbs quickly and am off all my diabetes and high blood pressure medications. Went from a size 18/20 clothing to size 8/10. You can get a lot more information from my website at www.best-weight-loss-advice.com Read all about it - this can change your life as you do not crave food and they teach you how to keep it off as well. I am amazed at how great I feel! Marie
  • Great! Just remember that whatever you do, calories always count & it's better to sit than lie down, to stand than sit, to walk than stand, to run than walk.
  • There really aren't any 'tricks' to it. Stick to a regular exercise regimen and eat right. Its not easy but thats really the only way to do it and keep it off.
  • Yes, stop eating
  • Agreed, Jan. Healthy eating and regular exercise are your best bets. The key to both of these is finding a routine or groove that suits your schedule and lifestyle. Find someone or something to help remind you of your goals -- a spouse, a workout buddy, your mobile phone -- and know that small steps make a big difference -- eating a larger healthy breakfast and a smaller healthy dinner, a 10 min walk around the office building. Best of luck.
  • Yep. Eat less, exercise more. It's really that simple.
  • Maximize your fiber and water intake, do aerobics, and increase your muscle mass.
  • There's no tricks, just commitments.
  • Coaches Oats every morning. Increase your fiber. It really works!!
  • One simple trick is to eat an apple and drink an 8oz glass of water before every meal. Remember to exercise!
  • Me and my weight have been battling each other for years - I got myself in that "if I could lose a little weight I would feel better about being seen exercising, if I could exercise I would have a little more energy to do more" vicious circle. Then I found a Rosemary Conley class - low fat diet and they weigh you weekly BUT you also get the exercise class - with other fatties! Seriously - I wasn't the biggest there, I wasn't the most unfit there and within a very few weeks I was seeing a difference - if you have nobody close to help motivate you I highly recommend attending one of these classes - they understand, they are all in the same boat and they will support you through the good times and the bad....good luck
  • burn more calories than you consume.no tricks.how you burn calories is a matter of time and ability.eating healthy and organic will pay off hugh dividens.YOU CAN DO IT!!!!because i did.
  • Put down the burger.
  • Other than cutting off your head or losing an undesirable spouse, there are no magic bullets. Eating right, exercise and commmitment to a healthier way of life will always be the best way to go.
  • Eat less, burn more calories. Those are the only tricks there are. Sad but true.
  • Drink a huge glass of water before every meal. Limit carb intake to one-two servings per day. Split 30 min. of exercise into 3 intervals of 10 min. each, so it makes it easier to spare the time.
  • the best exorcise is walking its less stressfull on the body and you can do it anywhhere
  • The Don-key diet...Keep your a$$ out of the fridge!
  • Pretend Raisin Bran is the only cereal that was ever invented. And not that yummy crunchy kind either, the good old fashioned, gets soggy in 30 seconds kind. Also, don't eat 3 hours before bed. Your body produces growth hormone while you sleep, which will help you burn fat. Insulin can interfere with this process for lots of people. Go to bed on an empty stomach as often as possible. You need exercise when you're trying to lose weight, or you body will just slip into hibernation mode. The bare minimum would be 20 minutes of walking, 5x per week. If you can wake up earlier to do it first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach, it'll be about twice as effective for burning fat since it gets your metabolism up for the rest of the day. Good luck, and think positive.
  • Stay focused. Eat zoned.
  • Do not buy foods that are more fattening than others. This will only lead you to consume them later on.
  • You may like this article I just wrote on the subject: Advice On Gaining Health To Be Your Perfect Weight http://advice.com/article.jsp?id=867f09a6183b4c2db9f2ed4fbdcc3907 :)
  • Eat several small meals throughout the day instead of giant lunches or dinners. Drink a ton of water. Get some cardio in.
  • working out first thing in the morning on a empty stomach burns fat 300 times faster
  • Find out how many calories you should be consuming each day for your weight and height (BMI) and then make sure you know your movement and body use calories (we use calories just sitting and sleeping etc + working of course). Of course to lose weight calories in must be more than we use, but apparently if losing weight we should have less than 30g of fat per day. If you do your reading and read all packaging you will realise how much fat and calories are in food so will make healthier choices and that is better than dieting because in the long run you will use the healthier foods for life rather than starve yourself. I do hope you get your target weight in the long run no matter how long it takes you - the goal and thereafter is what counts
  • trade white bread for wheat bread. fiber helps keep you from digesting fats in your diet (but cut down fatty foods anyway). cardio helps. toning - regularly - helps because you are aware you're trying.... so you eat better as a result. get some resistance bands, do arm curls, even going for a walk helps if it's a regular thing. and yes, an 8oz glass of ICE water before meals - at least half an hour before, will help too. eat fruit if you want to snack, an apple can take the craving away.
  • Eat less, exercise more. You could use smaller plates.
