This is taken from the movie Napoleon Dynamite. In the scene, there is a girl selling things door to door. She explains to Napoleon that it is to raise money for college. At this point, you hear Napoleon's brother, Kip, shout from a different room, "your mom goes to college!" What with the huge success of this movie, basically any line from it can be taken out of context in middle and highschools, and have many people understand where it comes from. So if you hear something like this from your kids: "you're dumb!" "your mom's dumb!", don't take it personally.

Your mom.

I'm pretty sure people were saying "your mom" before Napoleon Dynamite came out

Using the phrase "your mom" comes from the long-running tradition of insulting someone else's mother. An attack on one's mother is supposedly more offensive than an attack on oneself. Ever heard of "Yo Momma" jokes? That's the concept. Now, it has gotten to the point where teenagers simply use "your mom" as reference to this phenomenon as a whole, sometimes substituting it into phrases. This can be amusing when used randomly/out-of-context.

lmao. just a stupid insult that can sometimes relate to sex (gross yes, but true). Example: if someone said "My new bed is sooo comfy", the insulter may say "your moms bed is comfy" but its usually not. Its usually just like if someone calls you stupid, the other will reply "your moms stupid" I do it sometimes as a joke cause I think its funny, but I can't see someone using it as a seriouse insult.
