  • I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you're entitled to asolutely NO child support until a support order is enacted. You have to go through all the legal channels (paperwork, court orders, etc.), and once the father is served papers, THEN the ball starts rolling. He will be given an option to request a DNA tests. If he wants one, then it's more waiting - if he accepts that he is the father without a DNA test, he files HIS paperwork. Once all that is done, an official support order can be done, after calculating his earning potential AND yours, factoring in any other children either of you have, expenses, etc. Once they decide how much he is liable to pay you, THEN he starts paying you. There is no back-support - he owes you nothing until all that I mentioned is completed, they don't go back. While it doesn't sound fair, I suppose they assume as a parent, it's your responsibility to declare the father, and until you do, he has no legal responsibility, as he had no idea he WAS a father, and it is punishment to him to have to suddenly come up with a large sum of money he never had any idea he'd need to fork out. I knew who my daughter's father was (no doubt there, I wasn't with anyone else), but he didn't WANT to pay support, and nobody was able to track him down for 7 years - regardless of that fact, I still could not get back-support. Only from that point forward. Best of luck to you.
