  • Phones don't spy on people, governments spy on people. Would the Chinese government use a phone to spy on someone? Sounds like a rhetorical question if you word it that way, doesn't it?

  • The potential is there, but if it WERE a built-in thing and it were discovered then the phone company would quickly suffer lawsuits and almost complete loss of sales. SO: I think that is very unlikely. MUCH MORE likely is that Chinese cell phone SERVICE companies are enabling the Chinese government to spy on Americans, or that (in the case of Huwai, for example) Chinese cell phone companies are sharing data with the Chinese government, data FREELY GIVEN to the company by Americans as part of their cell phone set up procedure.
