I have this friend who tends to make everyone think that they mean a lot to her and she basically just makes them feel special. I mean, she is quite popular in a tomboyish way and has her own group of good friends. I am one of those people to whom she says she wants to be a 'best bud' of and she says she knows that I don't like her, but I really do like her. And then, there's this best friend of mine that she is obsessed with, and she has even told her that from the time she met her, she wanted her to be her best friend [but they're still not, 'cause obviously we're still best friends]. And now I'm starting to think that maybe she doesn't really like me much and it's only a way to have more contact with my best friend. And sometimes I just feel jealous too about this whole thing. It's kind of like I wanna be that person instead of my best friend. And I know that the need of this girl to get close to my friend is genuine. What exactly is the perspective of a third person regarding this situation?

I think you can have more than one 'best bud'. I also don't think it matters who she likes best. She obviously wants you both for friends, and you're both lucky to have such a friend. If any of you bring jealously into this friendship it could ruin it. I suggest you accept her friends as this is the best way to be a good friend. If they make her happy that should bring you happiness as well. I'm sure you all fill different places in her friendship dynamic and she would be sad to lose any of you. Whatever you do, never try to make her choose. Whoever does this will lose, and will hurt your dear friend.
