-
yeh i guess its just cause my family always did but i like to use vegetable oil when i cook something
-
It depends on what I'm cooking. Usually EVOO or Butter- it depends on the type of thing I'm cooking. I never use fat, unless sometimes I drain out most of the fat from bacon to cook my morning eggs in.
-
Olive oil, it does so many good things for the body.
-
Olive oil AND butter. I'm not a big fan of lard, since most varieties are hydrogenated "to make it more stable".
-
For the most part, extra virgin olive oil. Sometimes butter just tastes better though!
-
Normally extra Virgin olive oil, some things like Crepes butter. It depends on the item to be cooked. I never use lard.
-
I tend to use sunflower oil as i dont really like the flavour of olive oil, if im frying onions or mushrooms then i use butter.
-
I use all 3. It depends on what I'm doing. Olive oil has the highest smoke point, so it can take the most heat without burning. Butter is great for so many pan sauces. There's nothing like bacon fat for homefries! I say, use 'em all, in moderation, and have fun.
-
I use olive oil. I'd prefer to use butter more often for flavor. I don't. I'd prefer to deep-fry more...and if I had my druthers...lard makes it taste better. I don't though.
-
I prefer butter for it's delicious flavor.
-
depends on what I am cooking. Although, I can say I have never cooked using lard... In some recipes neither do the right thing.
-
Most of the time I'll use Olive or Canola oil. Occasionally I'll use butter (or part butter, part oil). I've never used lard in my house. The only time I've ever used lard in cooking was in my cooking classes when we were making flour tortillas (and darn were they good!).
-
Mostly some kind of oil.
-
Olive oil has a certain flavor to it that adds "something" to a dish. It is also much healthier for you than the other options.
-
Virgin Olive Oil for most things - better nutrition than extra virgin, good shelf life, Omega 3s, .... Butter for eggs. Lard for home fries. Peanut oil for french fries. Pam never.
-
Olive oil.
-
Olive oil, but the taste of butter is pretty tempting too.
-
The dish or food determines which fat. Sometimes it just has to be butter. Many things, especially Asian food just doesn't taste right without peanut or coconut oil. Many rustic dishes just need bacon fat or salt pork fried in the pot. And when baking lard or butter depending on what texture you want. I want good taste and I want good texture. So who knows which fat it will be?
-
Different oils smoke at different temperatures. It depends what your cooking and at what temp to determine what oil/lard/butter to use. Butter has a low smoke point, so beware not to burn.

i don't think i have ever had lard in my house, the idea of a lump of animal fat is just too nasty to contemplate... i prefer olive oil for everything except scrambled eggs. i use butter for eggs, i like to scortch the butter until it's a little dark and then cook the eggs in it, makes the eggs look dirty but so tasty.
-

olive oil!!

It depends on what I am cooking. I generally use Extra Virgin Olive Oil becase its healthier for you. I use vegetable oil or canola oil for baking; and I do, on occasion, save drippings from bacon to add flavor to fried potatoes, onions & red peppers. Bon Apetit!
-
It really depends on what you are cooking. Butter gives a certain richness to foods and can be cooked to a browner state that brings a "nutty" flavor. Olive oil is very healthy, but sometimes the flavor of extra virgin olive oil is not what is needed. Lard is terrible for you, but can impart flavor to beans (think like you are cooking in bacon grease from the can on your grandmothers kitchen counter) The one oil which gets touted as healthy yet should be avoided is canola oil. It comes from the rapeseed plant and was used as an industrial lubricant in Canada, hence the name canola...Canadian oil.
-

-
each is used in certain types of cooking. i prefer to use whatever is needed for food, for instance butter burns at med high temp so olive oil is better for panee, sautee. etc, lard for baking and so on. i try not to ever use margerine, or hydrolized butter, unsweetened, unsalted butter is better.
-
extra virgin olive oil for the most part.
-
Rapeseed oil - same constitution as olive (as far as the balance between omega 3 and 6, and cholesterol content) but cheaper.
-
Olive is good for pan frying pork chops. it will add flavor. Eggs cooked in butter is very good. Lard for pie crust will make it flakeier (2 parts lard 1 part butter) both chilled. Stake pan fried with crisco. Crisco has a high smoke point, Note crisco is cotton seed oil.
