As stated the actor was Anthony Daniels, who (point conceded) together with Kenny Baker (R2D2) are the two only actors to appear in the six movies. Another interesting fact is thar Daniels improvised his british accent (which wasn't part of the script) and this was loved by Lucas who encouraged him to keep using the accent. He believed it gave more persona and credibility to the protocol droid.
