Sonographers are needed in the ER, medical wards, obstetrics and in various capacities throughout the hospital. These environments require a fast pace, calm under pressure and the ability to work with a broad range of patients and health care providers.

Outpatient Positions

The outpatient settings for sonographers include stand-alone clinics, vascular centers and echocardiography labs. These positions are often filled by technicians who have already acquired inpatient experience in a hospital environment.

Doctors' Offices

Another environment in which experienced ultrasound technicians are needed is private doctors' offices. Obstetricians and cardiologists often hire experienced technicians to run diagnostic tests in their facilities.
