  • I am not fammilar with cars but if a soft top only has a front seat the answer is not until they are over 4.5 feet tall. Until that height children should not be allowed in the front seat.
  • Same rules apply as a hard top vehicle. A safe and responsible driver is the most important step. If there is an airbag for the front seat it isn't safe. Car manufacturers assume that the front passenger is about 5 feet tall and over age 11. If there is no airbag then push the passenger seat as far back as possible and use the car seat (forward or rear facing) according to the laws and age/weight of the baby. If there are seats in the back then statistics suggest that the seat behind the driver is the safest in the event of an accident. Riding with the roof down is likely to result in an unhappy baby though. The wind and movement will likely cause the baby discomfort.
  • My father has a vintage soft top without seatbelts. My kids are never allowed in it *urgh*. I wouldn't recommend the top down with a baby as they are more susceptable to chills and drafts. They also need protection from the rays.
