Considerations
Many women are screened for breast cancer in two widely used methods. Mammograms are offered as testing for women who are 40 and over. Self breast exams are suggested for every woman each month starting with her first period.
Misconceptions
There are a number of myths surrounding breast cancer risks. These include bras with under wire and deodorant use as risk factors, which are not founded in scientific fact, according to BreastCancer.org.
Prevention/Solution
Genetic risk factors cannot be lowered; however, maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle, along with avoiding alcohol can help to lower your risk of breast cancer as you age.
