  • http://www.washingtonpost.com... Wheat imported from China and tainted with rat poison has been identified as the source - Why when we grow wheat here in the USA are we IMPORTING wheat from China and other countries? Why are we inspecting only 2 % of imports? WHY was WHEAT...known to be used for both human and animal consumption being exposed in any possible way to RAT POISON? What would have happened if this wheat would have been used to bake breads that ended up on grocery store shelves...or in flour bags for at home baking? I think we can all figure out the answer to the last question I pose...PEOPLE would have gotten sick and some would have died. It is bad enough that companion animals died because of this screw up...it is worse that Menu is really ducking taking further responsibility in the illness and death their products caused. This whole thing is one big ugly song and dance between a monkey and a football, if you know what I mean! Menu evidently KNEW there was product contamination from FEBRUARY 20TH...but they only issued the recall within about 24 hours prior to my posts here...they ARE responsible for THAT and they need to be held accountable to those who now have sick or dead animals. Be aware of where the food you buy YOURSELF, YOUR FAMILY, AND YOUR ANIMALS COMES FROM...ask questions...become informed...because evidently no one else is watching out for us as consumers as much as we might be lulled into thinking "they" do! This was a very horrible thing that happened, but just think about how much worse it COULD HAVE been if it had been baked in your loaf of bread. EDIT: I originally posted the entire list from the recall in both dogs and cats...but since the posts do cycle down...I appreciate them being added on again! In case anyone missed the first posting of lists or web site...Thank you all!
  • OK try this---CBS News (CBS/AP) Menu Foods is recalling dog food sold under 51 brands and cat food sold under 40 brands. A complete list of the recalled products along with product codes, descriptions and production dates is available from the Menu Foods Web site. Here are answers to consumer questions regarding the recall. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: What brands and types of pet food are being recalled? A: The recall involves Ontario-based Menu Foods' "cuts and gravy" style cat and dog food packaged from Dec. 3 to March 6. The wet food, which consists of chunks of meat in gravy, is packaged in cans and small foil pouches. The food was sold under numerous brand names — 40 cat food brands and 51 dog food brands as of Monday. Q: What happened to the food that led to this recall? A: The recall started after reports that at least 10 pets — one dog and nine cats — suffered kidney failure and died after eating the food, according the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The FDA on Monday said that as many as one in six animals died in tests of suspect dog and cat food by the manufacturer after complaints the products were poisoning pets around the country. Q: Where was this food sold? A: The pet food was sold throughout North America under both store and major brand labels at Wal-Mart, Kroger, Safeway and other large retailers. Q: What should I do if I have some of this pet food in my cupboard? A: The FDA says stop feeding it to your pet. Many of the major store chains are also granting refunds for returned food. Q. How do I know if my pet is sick as a result of eating contaminated food? What are the symptoms? A: Signs of kidney failure include loss of appetite, lethargy and vomiting. Q. What should I do if I already gave some of this food to my pet? Do I need to take my pet to a doctor? A: It's best to seek advice from a veterinarian in such situations, according to the FDA. Q. Who can I call with questions? A: Menu Foods has a consumer hot line at 1-866-463-6738 and 1-866-895-2708. The FDA is asking those with sick or dead pets to call FDA state complaint coordinators. A list of contacts for such coordinators is available at http://www.fda.gov/opacom/backgrounders/complain.html. Q: What precautions are being taken to make sure it doesn't happen again? A: The company says it changed suppliers as of March 6, and has increased testing of raw materials and finished goods. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/03/17/national/main2581329.shtml
  • :/ My friend's cat died from this...
  • The company found it coincided with the usage of a new raw material, and have recalled all batches that used that new raw material. It is very sad that some peoples pets have died as a result of this. Here is a link to the recall from the Website of the manufacturer. http://www.menufoods.com/recall/Press_Recall_03162007.htm
