• The thermostat, activates a relay [switch] which enables/disables power to the unit. If you turned it off at the thermostat, and it keeps running, then the thermostat, is no good. If you know which breaker in the electic-service-panel is for the a/c, you can flip the breaker, which is also a switch, to cut the power to the unit, until it can be fixed. Make sure you dont have it set to FAN, which will run a fan regardless of where the thermostat is set, it just will not cool.
  • Unplug it or flip the breaker. It can't run without power.
