Who is to say the rocks are not alive and we are mere insects on it's surface. There is more to life than carbon based organisms. There is a helluva lot about the universe we don't know, let alone understand.

Consider that an animal or a person is made up of lots of parts (organs) working together so that the whole thing works and is balanced, plus the fact that there are all kinds of bacteria living inside and on the skins of animals and humans. Then if you consider that Earth has weather & rivers & oceans for a circulatory system, volcanoes and quakes, and it has things living in and on it, you could make an argument that Earth itself is one huge organism. However, if you're asking if the Earth is CONSCIOUS, there's no way to know unless it IS conscious AND develops a way to communicate with us in a way that we know it's Earth sending the message. How likely is this? Not very. How often do you attempt to communicate with your own bacteria?
-
Yes.
-
For environmental purposes, yes.

I think so

The inhabitants of the earth are classified as "living things". The earth itself is just a rock. Does the earth have a soul? Well, first we need to know if WE have souls.
-
If it moves - its alive..!
-
Indeed I believe it to be a living organism, though not a sentient one.
-
well if it is not a living planet, it sure has a funny way of showing that it is dead, with all the things that go on with our planet every day I would think that it has the a lot of life in it and it can sure show it in many different ways. From Earth Quakes to volcanoes and many more things I think it is alive, and always on the move.
-
Not only is it living it actually supports life!
