  • In your head, you can get a really rough answer by simply figuring 65% would be halfway between 60% and 70%. Since 60% is 78 and 70% is 91, what's halfway inbetween those numbers? In your head, you can figure it's around 85 pretty easily, and really it doesn't take a calculator to figure out it's 84.5. Figure: 78+[(91-78)/2], or if you don't know algebra: - Subtract: 91-78=13 - Divide: 13/2=6.5 - Alternative 1, add to the smaller number: 78+6.5=84.5 - Alternative 2, subtract from the bigger number: 91-6.5=84.5 I don't understand the point of this though. You don't need to estimate anything. You haven't learned about proportions yet? Any time you see a percent, figure it's asking for that number out of 100. 65% is 65/100. A simple proportion will do the trick. Cross-multiply: 60      x ----- = ----- 100    130 130*60=100*x 7800=100x 78=x For 65% of 130, do the same thing: 65      x ----- = ----- 100    130 65*130=100*x 8450=100x 84.5=x
