yes, of course. I think...

YES. Without respecting others, life just gets too complicated making enemies wherever you go.

I believe that people in general would not try to be good, although I want to believe that I would be good. People donate money to charity all the time. In my opinion there is a reward from this action: the feeling that you are doing good. I believe that one major reason that I donate to the Southern Poverty Law Center is to feel good about myself. I wish it weren't true, but it is. I like the feeling that I am partially responsible for bringing justice to racists for their hate crimes. I believe that people could be good without consequences such as heaven and hell. I am an atheist and I am more ethical than ALL of my religious friends. If heaven and hell makes you behave morally, that's good. My only objection is that your behaviour is not from the heart; it is a reaction out of fear.

For me being fair and honest come's from my heart, and I know right from wrong - So I think I'd tend to be good --- Good Question

I am sure some of us would, as we have our own morals. Unfortunately there are others that don't and wouldn't care what they do.

yes, but I would love to throw a pie at Katie Couric.

No, I don't believe people would be instinctively good (if there were truly NO consequences). Human nature since the beginning of time has been selfish and self centred, with no consequence or concern of consequence this innate nature would be amplified and we would find ourselves doing whatever feels right to us at any given point in time. Simply look at how society is beginning to behave the more successful litigation becomes. With no consequence to our actions there would be no need for responsible behaviour. We would like to think that we would be good, but what dictates what is considered good and bad anyway? Surely the current concern for consequences has helped to mould our idea of what is good and what is bad?
