All good answers. I never argued with my elders and still don't although I am constantly getting closer to not having elders to argue with, anyhow. And, as an elder, I appreciate that respect definitely goes both ways.

I was taught that it was, although I was also taught then anyone even 2 days older than me was considered my "elder" and that one must never argue or question their elder but instead to hold that person in high regard. Needless to say, as I grew, I put the blind obedience to a halt. In answering your question, I believe there are always exceptions to the rule, all depending on the circumstances.

Disrespectful and pointless to argue with anyone. At the very least you will only make then feel more confident in their position -- and you may well alienate them forever.
