Remember...gender isn't only physical....it is mental as well. I know. I was born with a male body and a female brain...now transitioning. So,when people go thru SRS,they are trying to match their body with the brain they were born with. Why would they regret it if they truly believe they were born in the wrong body? Understand?

There are some who regret it, but the thing is, you have to be really sure, because once you get the surgery, theres no going back.

I don't know if there are any actual statistics. The problem is that it is so difficult to actually get the srs surgery and there are so many hoops, that people who are not satisfied with the result tend to keep quiet so as not to cause trouble for everyone else. I know of one person online who did some of the Female-to-Male surgeries and was unhappy with it and stopped the process. I think in her case she went back to living as a woman. http://feministe.us/blog/archives/2007/03/20/undisclosed-locations-unfinished-business/ She said she was very uncomfortable talking about it because of the effect on other transgendered people. But as her personal decision it just didn't feel right for her. She is still a strong advocate of transgender rights and srs for those who need it. http://feministe.us/blog/archives/2007/08/05/two-birds/ I only say this because it's important not to silence people's lived experiences. There have been those for whom srs was not the right choice. But it really seems like this is not the majority experience. The most recent (relatively small) study placed the dissatisfaction rate at 1%, which is pretty good. Another study focusing on postsurgical MtF participants outlined some reasons for different levels of satisfaction, the major one being age at the time of surgery. Younger people tend to adjust better. http://goliath.ecnext.com/coms2/gi_0199-2945651/Factors-associated-with-satisfaction-or.html In this ten-year study of 232 people, none of them expressed complete regret or retransitioned back to their original gender. Only 6% expressed "occasional regrets". Hope that helps.
