Do you think it was disrespectful of Obama to address McCain as John, while McCain addressed him as Senator Obama?
-
Absolutely not. I do however think that it was disrespectful of Obama to imply that he would INDEED be president.
-
Eye contact was not the reason for the debate. Can you find any other distractions to the fact that no one really won?
-
I was under the impression that they were to address each other - that was part of the debate. I figured McCain would get thrown off if he made eye contact and forget his "talking points." (I'm pretty sure I'll get downgraded by McCain supporters on this one).
-
I think they both had there disrespectful moments but I dont see anything wrong with him calling him John, it is his name but the no eye contact thing bothers me alot, this is a man who is running for Presidency of our country and he cant even look at his opponent in the eye come on now.

Debates center on what the people say, not how they look or where they look. I do not think it was disrespectful!!
-
Yes, I think so. They're supposed to speak to each other when talking about each other, no? Watching McCain's delivery kinda made me think like he was trying to get the crowd with him, like, "Right, guys? Right? Obama lied, didn't he? How bout you hate him along with me?"

ive seen five year olds with better manners. its shameful behavior. you must always look someone in the eyes when you are addressing them. as a side note, i think mccain couldnt look obama in the eyes because he has such disdain for obama. it was so obvious to me. mccain seemed to be seething in rage the entire debate. it was very unpresidential demeanor. i think his anger problem is a major cause for concern for a potential head of state. one can seriously damage foreign relations with poor observance of manners during meetings with heads of state. he came off as overly aggressive, condescending, pedantic, and hostile. hes no statesman.

Yes it was disrespectful and diminishing. Senator McCain had the full intention of annoying Senator Obama by making him feel simply "less". Let's not forget in what city they were and how the voting intentions are going in that state. Since the moderator asked them several times to talk to each other, though he was not a very good moderator, he did try for them to address each other, up to that moment Senator Obama had been addressing his rival as Senator McCain, but when Senator Obama noticed this issue, he then began to call his rival as John. This has been a clear and undeniable act of racism by Senator McCain. He also said in several occasions that Senator Obama had said this and the other, we all know that was not true and so said Senator Obama in several occasions. Watch the enclosed videos, both are on foreign policy in a Forum which had five former Secretaries of State as guests, these videos will allow you to know who told the truth and who was right on many of the debate matters on this subject.

I think both candidates were disrespectful of the People. They'd both rather pay off the thieves who keep robbing us every couple of decades than protect us from them once and for all. Why did neither of them suggest confiscating golden parachutes or appropriating the wealth of those who have been stealing from us for decades, if not centuries.

He came off as a petulant child.

I read something on a website the other day, and they were talking about this, and one person had another view on it. He suggested that, given McCain's temper, during his debate prep he may have been coached in "rage control", and part of that would be minimalizing eye contact with his opponent. You can tell that McCain pretty much hates Obama personally, its not just that they happen to be rivals running in the same election, McCain hates him. You can tell, he was friendly and respectful of Hillary Clinton, friendly and respectful of John Edwards, he and Obama never hit it off. The thing though, that's interesting, is that when McCain was running against Mitt Romney in the primaries, another guy McCain seemed to think was a little prick, he managed to maintain eye contact and a sense of humor throughout those debates. So I don't know why he couldn't keep it up this time around.

Personally... I think it started after Obama pointed our McCains singing his little song about bombing Iraq... I think that set him off. he was pissed off when he said that!
-
Not so much disrespect as fear.
