  • I think the Palin pick was brilliant. McCain reacted to Obama's huge mistake in blatantly ignoring Hillary Clinton as VP. Obama didn't see it coming. Now he has to deal with it.
  • Everything I've read/heard indicates that McCain wanted Joe Lieberman to be his running mate. But the Republican Party is beholden to its rural/Homelander/right-wing/authoritarian wing, so they forced him to pick someone else. I think the GOP was correct about Palin giving them a 'bounce' and changing the media/news cycle in the short term. However, because they didn't 'vet' her properly, they didn't adequately recognize her negatives (lack of experience, crony-centric governing style, prone to verbal gaffes, etc.) So the 'bounce' is fading. Furthermore, I think events are simply overwhelming the McCain campaign. As the 'chickens come home to roost' from the radical 'deregulate and deficit-spend' policies of the past 30 years, he simply does not have a reasonable case for electing more of the McSame. Bloomberg would not help with that. . . .
  • I would argue that Obama's failure to pick Hillary Clinton as his VP was a considerably more bone-headed move than McCain's failure to choose a liberal, former ex-Republican mayor - with or without his financial acumen.
  • Yes he would have been a good choice. I was born and raised in NY. I moved to North Carolina about 3 years ago. I didnt vote for Bloomberg in his first term as mayor but the second term I did. Smart and caring man. Republicans are not too fond of him because they say he's not a "true" republican.
  • Last I checked, Senator McCain was still a contender. http://www.electoral-vote.com/ Pssst... if I were to pick a lessor known Governor, I would have went wih Governor Daniels, though Governor Palin was on my short list, along with Governors Crisp and Jindal. But what do I know, seeing my track record when it comes to campaigns -- losing three times, big.
  • Bloomberg would have been a good choice along with Rommney. That said McCain, Obama, Palin and Biden are no where proffessionals on econonmics. That said, who ever wins the election will have staffers who are proffessionals on economics and BTW there is not a damn thing a president can do to run a free market system.
  • Bloomberg? Definitely smart, brilliant, economics, yadda yadda. But how would Bloomberg help him get elected? Not likely. A NY Republican is to the left of almost every Democrat in the country. And McCain is on the move. Right now the election is a toss up.
  • I think he made the right choice if he want in office.
