  • Anytime a ball strikes an umpire, the ball is dead. Now I'm not sure if the runners may advance at their own risk or whatever, but I'm positive the ball is ruled dead.
  • If a fair ball touches an umpire before passing an infielder other than the pitcher the ball is dead and the batter is awarded 1st base. All runners forced to advanced because of the award of 1st base go to the next base. All other runners return to the base they were at at the time of the pitch. If a fair ball touches an umpire after it passes an infielder the ball is alive and in play.
