My son did that when he was little so I made a point of leaving earlier so he had the time to stop and smell the roses.

Yes! This happened all the time when my son was younger, and now my daughter is going through the same age. Usually I take walks to enjoy the walk, and bring a friend, so the slow pace doesn't bug me. It's fun to watch their faces light up when they crouch to examine something new. I had this problem BIG TIME in college, where I actually lived about half of a mile from the daycare, and had no car, so every day I had to walk to and from daycare with my son (then 3) and it took a lot of patience on my part! As for actually getting somewhere, I've learned to load up the slowest kiddo up onto my shoulders, and figure I'm burning a few extra calories and getting to where I'm going on time as well.
