  • It's time hasn't come yet, they're still too expensive for now.
  • The government doesn't have any money, thats why. If it wants more money it has to either print it and cause inflation or steal it from you. Allow capitalism to work and soon everyone will own them without government intervention - just like TVs and radios.
  • They should decentralize all power production! But the existing powers that be will never permit it to happen!
  • too political!!! just like the oil companies. Oil is big buisness and the electric companies are right behind them.
  • First you need to answer the question, WHY SHOULD IT?
  • If we could cover just 10% of the area of Nevada, which is mostly desert, with solar panels... that would generate all of the country's electrical needs.
  • because we can't fucking afford it ourselves... but first look at the alternatives... solar shiz wears out quickly and our bodies will keep going... why not make exercise equipment that is beneficial to energy needs rather than detrimental???
  • the most basic reason, and please excuse my language, is that to do so would be WAY TOO FUCKING EXPENSIVE!!
  • because the same people that run the government are the same people with major ties in natural resources industries.
  • That's not what gov't is for. Besides, shouldn't the electric companies do that? If they're going to buy the excess power from us anyway...
  • Maybe us all doesn't want those things, making it a choice. If you want it, you pay for it, just like everything else shouild be. If you can't afford it, you don't get it, no matter what that 'it' may be.
  • First, solar isn't the final answer. They are barely 30% efficient. The cost is astronomical and it take a long time to get the investment back. Second, the government is already way too far into my life. Why would I invite them in further. Power isn't that bad if you make your home efficient and don't use it recklessly. There are changes coming but I'll handle things myself. If you are unable to manage there are people that aren't government that are willing to help.
  • Many governments in Australia are now giving rebates for installing rainwater tanks because of our water shortage. I think pretty soon, they will ahve to bite the bullet and make all new houses/buildings have a switch over system from mains to solar, in order to cut usage from the powerstations, which need water, which cause emissions etc. Australia has more than enough sunlight to be very efficient in solar electricity. What we don't have is the population to make solar panels cheap.
  • No politics please.
  • Because that would make sense, would help small businesses, the environment and the citizens of this country to save money. Since no big corporations are involved in the making of such a random act of common sense, it will never happen
  • Government should be limited. Giving us money to buy stuff isn't one of the things it should be concentrating on.
  • Because solar panels in and of themselves are pretty useless. You need the wiring and batteries to make any real use of them. Be pretty silly to pay for solar panels that are just pretty decorations.
  • I don't own a house. Where would I put them?
  • The US government already does btw.
  • They do, but you need to finance a big portion upfront. Then you take the tax deduction over 5 years. The system takes about 7 years to pay for itself. Some may disagree, but yes, during the summer I pay about 12$ for electricity and during the winter about 60$ The savings is about 2500$ a year. Coupled with a geothermal heat / cooling system, I am very happy. The total investment was 20K, so 8 years to pay for everything with just the savings. But with the tax breaks it only takes 5.
  • Why shouldn't government subsidize solar? The answer is simple: solar is the single LEAST cost-effective means of power generation, and is therefore a HUGE WASTE of money. Solar is 9-15 times more expensive, per watt, than nuclear or coal, 8 times more expensive than natural gas, and 5 times more costly than wind.
