In films, why do they show fake newspapers with fake dates (e.g. in 39 Steps, a paper dated Saturday March 4, 1914 - which was in fact a Wednesday)? It also occurs in scripts (e.g. Hairspray refers to Friday June 5, 1962, even though it was a Tuesday!)

Most people don't know that, probably not even the filmmakers, and not many care for it. But 5 June 1962 was Wednesday.
