Marriage is preformed with the aid of some holy figure in most occasions. The ceremony is also based on a traditional cerimony of the religion. Religions also therefore, define marriage. Specifically marriage is a union between a man and a woman in most religions.

Religion has nothing to do with homosexuality or any sexuality for that matter. Religions do assert moral doctrines pertaining to that religion to suffice their own agenda's and control their ideal of a perfect moral society.

The Bible teaches us that homosexuality is an abomination and a homosexual act was, in the Old Testament, punishable by death. (see Levitcus 20:13) Also, Romans Ch.1 in the New Testament breifly mentions homosexuality and it is still shown as sinful. Here is an online tract on it if you would like to read it: http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/5003/5003_01.asp I hope that this is helpful. Thank you and God bless you!

Homosexuality has nothing to do with religion, nothing at all. And in any event, no religion holds any authority on what is right or wrong. Christian fundamentalist are simply obsessed with controlling every aspect of people's lives, it's astonishing how they reduce even the most deep and loving gay relationship to sex -- They are absolutely obsessed with sex!! -- As for the asinine statement that homosexuals have choices, religion is a lifestyle choice, homosexuality is only a label as to who someone falls in love with, it is not a lifestyle as much as they might want it to be. Even though most of them would agree that sex can deepen and enrich their own loving relationships, how many engage in sex only to have more children? They refuse to acknowledge that the same must be true for gays and lesbians, probably because that would mean we are more like them than they want to admit.

Marriage is a strange union of civil and traditionally religious institutions. For eons, the joining of 2 people as mates for life has been performed in a "church" of some kind, but it had civil implications mostly to do with the man taking any property the woman owned. It is only in the last century or so that the idea of marriage as a purely civil union has grown. The blessing of the church has become something extra for those who choose. Still, tradition dies hard. Do I believe we can achieve marriage parity in the States? Yes. When? I have no idea.

Don't get me started. Any religion including my own that is prejudiced against gays is a crap religion. I don't have to go to a bigoted church to pray to my God

Religion has no place even in straight marriages. It is a contract between two people. In other times it may have been involved with religion but those times are long gone. The church and state should be completely separate..My opinion as a gay married male.

chrisitans, esp Catholics are control freaks. They also want more butts in the pews so they make you feel like a hellbound wraith to get money out of you. It's also another means to try and flaunt the bible.

Okay here's my two cents, my religion does not approve of gays. There's stuff in the Bible about Soddam and Gamorriah, (spelling errors)but I'm not the one to be preaching...leave that to a Priest on Sunday. None of that is new news... So as a Catholic your taught its wrong (gay) but as a human being you sort of want them to have happiness and to live in a loving relationship. At least I do, but not all. What bothers me is the thought of having people force their way into a church wedding, knowing the core of the religion is against homosexuality. Can you imagine if the Catholic church had to perform a church wedding for gays? Isn't a civil union enough? I think that might be an issue because its based on man & a woman, and people aren't ready to have their faiths & religious beliefs taken away with something like prop 8. Thats why alot of churches had those vote yes signs up on Prop 8.

Because it's in the bible, and many Christians follow the bible without thought or question. . I think that the real question here is, what does religion have to do with marriage or government?

Some folks use their religious beliefs to "back up" their bigotry against LGBT people. Of course, we all know all the things that Jesus had to say against homosexuality: (crickets) (more crickets) So, of course, if they were truly christ-ian, they would love and accept everyone, no matter what their orientation, handedness, or eye color - you know, all those pesky inborn traits.

The true church is composed of those led by the Holy Spirit. (Romans 8) However, Jesus warned that there would be false prophets and false brethren amongst christians. You know them by their fruits. (Matthew 7) These grow together until the harvest. (Matthew 13)Those who advocate homosexuality in churches are contradicting God's word, which refers to homosexuals as unrighteous, unholy, profane, ungodly, etc. (1 Timothy 1) Such unrepentant sinners will not inherit the Kingdom of God. (1 Corinthians 6)As for those who openly sin, congregations are instructed to expel them to prevent the evil spreading. 'You shall put out the evil person from amongst you'. (1 Corinthians 5) There is nothing modern or new about sexual perversions. They were the reason for the Canaanite tribes being wiped out. (Leviticus 18)Those tribes had defiled themselves by indulging in incest, homosexuality, bestiality etc. The land itself had become defiled by these practices and it 'spewed them out'. Best wishes, Eddie Cairns.
