Oh my god! Absolutely not! That is horrible. What's next? Billing a murder victim's estate to recoup the cost of the investigation?
-
Absolutely not. Why should anyone have to pay for a crime upon which they are the victim. That is one reason we pay taxes. You pay for it every year and hopefully never have to get it back, but when you do, the government shouldn't be playing games.

I heard that and I simply could not believe it! So much for "mummy" and her charismatic personality and her, well, ya know, all around glib answers, smart retorts, "follow the dotted line" canned responses. No problem for her..unless her kid gets raped..since she's billed her state for $60/per diem for over 300 nights that she spent at home, she knows the value of a dime, doesn't she? By god, let's not only charge the rape victims, let's blame them as well. This is disgusting! :(
-
no they should not!!! that is disgraceful, being raped is a hard enough thing to face without having to pay for rape kit. its disgusting.:)
-
That's horrible! What the hell would happen if a rape victim couldn't afford the rape kit or if they also had their life savings stolen? It's in effect saying that rape victims who can't afford the kit are denied the benefit of the full resources of law enforcement.
-
That is preposterous! WTF is up with that?
-
Wow, she really was for the people, huh? This is one of the most disgusting things I think I have ever heard coming from an elected official. We cannot let this women win.

i hope that that is a decision that she lives to regret - making rape victims pay for their kits so police can investigate. on the surface of it, it sounds absolutely horrific and criminal in itself. it suggests to me that that's the kind of woman that we ought to have leading the country - china that is!!! not america, where we profess that individuals have rights and we care for those down-and-out. there's some pathetic part of me that always likes to try to come to the aid of the underdog - even if it's an underdog whose values i do not share. rape, especially when reported by younger women, is sometimes clouded by other factors - an unwanted pregnancy, a boyfriend unapproved of by parents, the need to cover oneself for staying out well beyond curfew, that sometimes a person might not be totally honest - in those cases, i think that charging someone who filed a false police report makes sense - charging the victim for the police to do their job is wrong. i think i know what this whole thing was about. i saw a tape of her saying that alaska has the highest rape and incest rapes in the country. that's sad. so, what does a misleading leader do? make it look like rape has gone down to almost nothing since she's taken office by charging victims for the police to do their jobs. PATHETIC, UNETHICAL action in my mind.

Why should the taxpayers pay for someone's medical care. If I punched you in the face and broke your nose should the taxpayers pay it? What if I was drinking and driving and ran over your kid? Is this the taxpayer's responsibility? The victim needs to pay for their medical care and unless they chose not to have insurance the insurance will in turn reimburse them. If they do not have insurance than their costs are part of what they ask for in their settlement with the criminal who raped them. Most importantly, I don't want to pay for all the kits for people who were not actually raped. They normally do not charge people with a false report with this type of thing unless it is incredibly blatant so most false reports go unpunished.
-
NO! WTF is going on is right, those poor victims. That just adds insult to injury. :(
-
It is very cruel to make such a statement, it is horrible just to think about it specially bearing in mind the raped women are usually poor women.

Isn't the Bostenherald whores for Obama? The story is fabricated

Testifying in front of the same committee, Lauree Hugonin, Director, Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (ANDVSA) noted that "billings have not come from police agencies but have come from hospitals." Trisha Gentle, Executive Director, Council on Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault noted that police departments were willing to pay for the exams, but that it was an internal decision on the part of the hospital as to who pays the hospital bill. Despite the spin recently being applied by astroturfing Obama supporters, there was never any evidence that victims were being charged by any police departments including Wasilla's Police Department under Palin. Testimony instead indicates it was callous hospitals that attempted to bill victims on rare occasions of insensitivity. One of many sources: http://confederateyankee.mu.nu/archives/274003.php
