Help answer this question below.
Usually kittens observe their mother using the litterbox, and will follow suit.
The urge to dig and bury their waste is instinctual. The litterbox is an artificial location for this activity - but it's the best thing available in their environment. So, usually cats will gladly use it.
Same with mine. I think it's just instinct for them now or something. Or they're just smart cookies ;)
Is kitty litter a good substitute for ice-melt salt?

"Sully" the kitten poops outside the litter box. Never in the same spot (so it is hard to do the food trick) but it is always on carpet (usually in a corner). She sits and kneads her claws in the carpet for a minute, walks in circles and poops. HELP?

You're reading When my cat was 5 weeks old, she was perfectly litterbox trained. How do they know to use these?
