Please tell me, if people don't believe in god, why do they go out of their way to prove it? (Serious answers)

Because some of them think that belief in God has a bad effect on people and the Earth and they are trying to help them perceive the delusion they are under.

Many people believe that religion creates most wars in the world as well as racism. "Athiests" will try and tell you that God does not exist because they are angry at all the problems it causes. Maybe this question should be asked, 'why do some Christians go out of their way to preach to others, and tell them that God does exist?'

I agree with the other answers. Atheists believe that there is no god and they try to convince theists that because many organised religions attempt to convince atheists that there IS a god. Just how theists believe that god heals, atheists see the negativity that religion can bring and has brought. -
Sometimes insecure about their belief. Sometimes in response to to religious proselytization. Sometimes because they think they are doing the religious person a service. Sometimes they are asked. I'm sure I've missed many, but these seem to me to be the big ones.

As an atheist, I don't go out of my way to prove anything. I do, however, fight with tooth and nail the ones that are trying to shove down my throat things I don't believe believe in

Because saying something without backing it up is the Christian way.
