i heard some time ago that microsoft wanted to buy yahoo so they together will oppose google... but yahoo didnt want to sell. so i guess there's no one now who can be a worthy opponent to google!

As a Search Engine Optimizer, I can tell you quite simply: there is no worthy opponent to Google. Answers to this question that do not reference search engines are just... stupid. When you know that Google was founded on the basis of creating new algorithms that organized the information searched in a specific way, you appreciate the process. A lot of companies and a ton of money are devoted to utilizing search engines as a resource to advance your business. Do you want to be on the main street OR that back street that you get lost to every single time? This is the difference that intelligent search engine optimization utilizes and understands. Google is the giant in this industry, and currently, none compare. In short, a worthy opponent to Google is yet to be created. All the statistical data points so, as well.
