  • At first a higher power was needed just to have law so we could survive in the moment. The laws were said to come from him. Later moral law came from the idea of eternity - there are certain rules you need to follow if we are going to be ale to stand each other in the next life, and we should probably go ahead and get used to following them now. Also moral law has been embraced becuase life can seem too complicated for utilitarianisms. Moral imperatives are just easier - and better for lazy people. On that note I think the Big 10 could be streamlined at least - get rid of a few - combine a couple more and we could get it down to less then 5 anyway.I would like to add the care for you neighbor part.
  • I had though it came from religious texts (quoran, bible, kabala, etc.) to hold man down when all other restraints are absent.
  • Here's my theory. When man fist settled in his tribe, they eventually figured that they would need to set some rules. When Joe stole Frank's rock, they all decided that they would need to put some rules into place. These rules, eventually became our 'morals'. Killing is immoral, rape's immoral, stealing's immoral. This was passed down through generations, and tought to us by our parents when we were young. That's my take on it anyway. =P
  • The church. Who else?
  • Moral law in the modern sense of the word stems from the Bible: http://www.hirhome.com/israel/cruxcontents.htm
  • Moral Law has apparently come from God Almighty according to the Bible. God Himself wrote the Ten Commandments for man to follow. Of course man doesn't have the ability to follow this Law to it's fullest extent. The penalty for lawbreaking is death. Because man is not "good" in the eyes of God (maybe in his own eyes but that's where it ends, inside we are really wretched and evil everyone of us, sometimes our acts of kindness are nothing more than selfish acts, wanting to be noticed as a "good" person.),He had to improvise by sending His Son Jesus to die in our place rather than allow us to die that is how much He loves us. While we still have to die physically we can have hope that one day the same power that raised Jesus from the grave will also raise us from the grave. Repent and trust in the Lord Jesus today, tomorrow you might not have the chance, you never know when your going to die.
  • What do you mean by moral law? If you mean peoples morality it is subjective and formed from our parents, and the experiences we have in life. If you mean societies laws, then they are formed by each individual society and are generally set up to enable us to live together without killing ourselves all off. Human beings are generally social animals and we need each other to survive, without laws society doesn't stand a chance.
  • The "moral law" as you put it most certainly did not come from the bible. The bible contains examples and laws that the most religious person today rejects (killing children for disobediance, etc.) The standard by which people choose which parts of the bible to use and which to reject must exist independent of the bible. - I think morality has an evolutionary basis. Natural selection would favor those that act together over those who act selfishly. Its called reciprical altruism. There are many example of this in the natural world. Wolf packs and insect colonies show this to be true. From this, our ancestors developed complex societies whereby these basic tendencies evolve (socially) into what we know now as morals.
