Question

Help answer this question below.

My mother seems to be going through printers. Inkjet type and they get too clogged up to print. The only thing I see her doing that might be damaging the printer is to use paper she gets as junk mail. Is it possible that this paper is damaging he printer?

My suggestion is to purchase an inexpensive LaserJet printer for home use. These types of pronters tend to last twice as long and do not seem to have nearly as many problems as an inkjet.

Junk mail is generally not printed on the best bond paper. Cheap papers shed fibers easily and the friction rollers that feed sheets to the print platen may be raising fibers up enough to catch the inkjet nozzle as it passes by. The fiber absorbs the ink at the nozzle and attracts other fibers, leading to a clog.

Have you run the head cleaning program that is part of the Epson software? Regular use of that program with good paper (multi-purpose paper is fine) prolongs the life of the print heads.

Do her a favor and buy her a ream of decent paper. It'll cost you about $30 but save her $300.
