Help answer this question below.
I doubt it would pay itself off, funny thing though I had a 97 4.6 when i bought a 99 5.4 I got better mileage with the larger engine, the 4.6 always seemed to downshift alot when driving around town
with having 2 cats and 2 collectors =4 u can remove the muffler totally and put in just a piece of pipe. also remove the rear collectors and have the stock cats. but have to have the two cats or it wont run right. computer stuff
A free flow exhaust system will improve performance somewhat which in the long run will increase mileage. Replacing the stock air cleaner with a K&N or equivalent at the same time is also a good idea. Don't expect a miracle though. With both of these mods you will probably on get a 1 or 2 mpg increase.

You're reading My 97 f150 4.6 gets only 15mpg on trips. Will a flowmaster or magnaflow cat-back dual exhaust really help improve mileage. Not looking alot of noise inside or out, just performance. Any accessories you know that may help? Thanks for truthful answers.
