This is one of those questions where I love the difference between British and American English. I'd certainly give any religion a go if it discouraged women from wearing pants (knickers). More seriously, though, I believe that the Plymouth Brethren frown on females cladding themselves in male garb. They also strongly suggest that their women wear headscarves at all times when the unwashed may see them. I am not sure if other Brethren orders have similar mores.

I think plenty probably discouraged this in the past, because there was a time when it was regarded as immodest for a woman to wear pants. Nowadays some pants are more modest than some skirts, so a woman would not necessarily be discouraged from wearing pants for that reason. Aside from that aspect, this attitude often stems from cultural attitudes (in society and within church congregation) about gender roles, etc.

My guess would be Amish and Muslims. I have never seen women from either of those religions in pants. Also Menonites wear dresses/skirts too I believe. I know there is another religion that wears the long skirts but I don't know what they are. It is a Christian religion and that is about all I know about it.

Some of the more conservative Baptist groups strongly encourage women and girls to wear long skirts rather than trousers.

From what I know if we're talking about in the christian faith, Penecostal churches don't really like for women to wear pants to church.

Females wearing pants is not an issue in my church (Episcopal). I wear slacks in the morning services. We're sort of formal. I used to go to an Episcopal Church that was more laid back and the women wore jeans and T-shirts, so it's really up to the custom of the parish I guess. But I always wear pants to church myself. I have a sister of a different denomination who gets mad at me wearing pants to my church... lol.

The Amish and the Mennonites do not wear pants, some churches who are Church of God do not wear pants though most now do, and there are various non-denomination churches, including the followers of the message of William Branham, who do not wear pants. Deuteronomy 22:5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth to a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment:for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God.

If your asking what denomination discourages wearing pants...the one I am familiar with is the Apostolic Assembly of GOD....basically Pentecostal...I went to that church as a matter in fact my dad was a minister in that church. I think that yes it is in the BIBLE about us wearing pants but to me...it is much more important what is inside our hearts that GOD wants to get out of us than getting me to dress differently. In time I beleive that I will change that part in my life with HIS bringing to my attention that HE wants me to dress different. Right now my insides are in worst shape than the outside.....I am not trying to do just what I want but honestly what is worst a nice long skirt but a heart full of hate and bitterness..or my pants that are covering me and my heart that is open to HIM wanting HIM to change me from glory to glory..to change my heart and ugly ways....??

This is not about the church or religion. It is about the new birth in the Soul. When God comes into your heart and you have that personal experience with God not just going to church - the Holy Spirit will cause you to obey the word of God - Deut 22v5. You would like to cover yourself and not show your bodyform. The Bible teaches us that by not dressing properly women cause men to commit adultery with them - WITHOUT THE ACT but just by looking. When you do not dress properly you have a filthy spirit on you and YOU DO NOT KNOW IT! Take heed of those fashion spirits that preach modern day Christianity which, is far from the Bible - THE WORD OF GOD! We need the old fashioned gospel - back to the Bible if ever we are to call ourselves Christians. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. His Word does not change so do not let denominations, creeds, dogmas and people's opinions cause you to believe a lie.

One of their young women tried on a pair of tight jeans in a shop just to see what it felt like to be in trousers or jeans - stepped outside of the changing booth to see what her bottom looked like in a mirror - was seen by one of her sect, got reported and was nearly driven away from her family as punishment

Some of the Pentacostal and Church of God Churches discourage it as well as the Amish and Mennonites and maybe the Church of the Brethren. One of the Church of Christ Churches disallow it too (not the UCC). I'm sure there are others. The PCA Church school in my city doesn't allow the girls to wear pants, but I think it's just the school.

if ypu truly love God with all your heart..eventually you will submit to him and wear modest clothing like skirts, christianity today has changed but God is the same God and his word never changes, we need people to stand up to his Gospel, the Gospel from when he preached with Peter and everything today is changing, along with "it dont matter whats on the outside, its the inside that counts" which is true but the bible also says that God will work from the inside out, meaning he will change your heart first then change your appearance, how u dress and so on..

Most witnesses wear skirts or a dress. It comes down to how much your own understanding and what your conscience tells you to do after reading what God would like written in the bible. Someone else should NOT impose or strongly pressure someone to do something because he or she has a bigger understanding of the bible. That's why we have free will, and no right to judge others on their relationship with God. That's theirs and theirs only. If you wear pants you wear pants, if you wear a skirt you wear a skirt. If you come across in the bible what God wants or says on the matter, then that's entirely up to you and your faith to decide.

The first western description of pants as we know them today, was made by the Romans when they invaded Britain. They referred to the Britons as "Bracchae" due to their habit of wearing a garment which ressembled a simply cut trouser. The first Roman invasion occurred shortly before Christianity, and there is no evidence of the wearing of pants having been transferred back to Rome. I am confused, therefore, as to how any Christian denomination could forbid rhe wearing of pants, when they did not exist in the christian world at a time when Christ walked the earth giving instruction. There are some who use the old Deuteronomy 22 section as a reason for not wearing pants, however, this was written at a time before the existance of pants, and seems to refer to women not wearing men's clothing. The poor scottish sinners in their kilts must be very ashamed! Anyhoo - at the time this was written both men and women wore what might be called a "dress" - a long garment. Ok, so there were differences between that of a man and that of a woman, as indeed there are in pants- a man would not fit into those cut for a woman. Then there is the argument that women should not let their shape be seen in case men commit adultery. My goodness. When will men begin to take responsibility for their own actions?? Why is it that they are able to pass the blame on to someone else? " I did not commit adultery - it was her fault - she wore pants!" "I did not eat the apple, Eve gave it to me" etc If those denominations which insist on sticking strictly to the entire content of Deuteronomy will go back to wearing the kind of clothing as worn in the period Deuteronomy was written, then I will respect their views. Until then, sorry - I have no time for that kind of controllong viewpoint!
