  • If a doe feels too stressed and scared and the kits are very young she may eat them to protect them or accidentally hurt them from running around too much in her cage. A doe with a litter needs to be kept quiet and alone, with no undue attention. If you don't need to be touching them, leave them alone, at least until they are 3 weeks old and starting to come out of the nest themselves. And you should never put a doe in the nest box, forcing her. She needs to figure out when to go in there and by placing her in there, she could hurt one of them accidentally. Leave her be, check their tummies once a day to see that they are full and round from the milk and just wait until they are older. A new mother, especially if this is her first litter needs quiet and no stress.
