Think supply and demand. We all love a beautiful tree and forests. Currently, forests are being re-cultivated in civilized countries. Re: the Amazon, it is for the money and to produce more grazing, farm land. China's fantastic rate of growth has strained all the building materials trade, using half the world's concrete and 1/3 the steel. They import a lot of wood too, at prices higher than in the states, driving building costs up and quality down. ADDiTION: Because that is where the wood is, or where it shouldn't be. People use wood/trees for many things. Would you prefer plastic? Professionals do replant forests. It is a RENEWABLE resource.

No one has adressed the fact that a small stand of tree's can produce 5 inches of water and air for 500 people. Plant a Tree!!!

Rain forests are being cut down for places to herd cattle, in addition for the oil that the trees have for plastic.

to make land for development havent you every heard of the slash - burn technique anyway ye they are using that technique everywhere and if i am right i heard on news 13 that they where making a 400 acres controlled burn for some reason i am really against that

Because they don't care about the future, only getting rich in their lifetime. Trees are vital to the survival of the planet, but these huge logging companies don't give a damn about anything but corporate profit!! Kimberly Clarke, the biggest and most well known producer of tissues in the world, are currently destroying the virgin forests of Canada in order to make their disposable product. They have been asked repeatedly to change their raw materials or at least introduce recycling as part of the manufacturing process so as to reduce the destruction to the environment their particular business causes. They have outright refused every time!!! They don't care that these virgin forests that have been there since the beginning, can never be replaced. They want their product to be used in every home with the same careless abandon that they have exercised in their rape of the environment! Boycott them, please!!
