Science fiction usually deals with real or reality inspired science and most of the time it is futuristic even when it is supposed to be about the past *For some strange reason? It is usually a narrative mostly in prose form, in short story or novella length. Many of them are about either utopian or dystopian societies and the theories and beliefs they hold or can be argued as a result of the plot and storyline involved. Fantasy is about things that are not necessarily real or based on reality even when they are scientific.

While a fantasy book can have both futuristic technology and magic, dragons, elves, fairies, unicorns, etc., the sci-fi must have only realistically possible science based fiction.
