What actions can the West take to stop Russia from taking over Georgia?

Well, we could try protesting in the U.N., but, we know what that would accomplish. Russia is trying to hang onto all the area that was the old Soviet Union and old Russian Empire. They must and will face facts, eventually. Conflicts will ensue until they do, but we had best stay out of it except diplomatically. We really owe none of those former Soviet states a thing.

The U.S already has too much on it's plate to take on the responsibility of being Georgia's guardian & savior.

Georgia invaded south ossetia which wants to be part of Russia and killed 12 russian peacekeppers. Russia just retaliated in a way the US and UK would do.

Mostly nothing. Harsh words but no action. It would be politically dangerous as well as physically dangerous to initiate hostilities.

Isn't it time the West stopped trying to control the World? We should offer whatever diplomatic help is required to assist in ending this with as little conflict as possible - but we should NOT send any troops or equipment! Time the US stopped trying to play God - and the UK stopped following them into fights that aren't ours!
