  • to the best of my knowledge it doesn't. I believe it is the natural extrapolation of the deification thinking. It may be in King Follett Discourse but I am not sure and do not have it with me to check.
  • NO!!! The LDS religion believes in the Plan of Salvation. And anyone familiar with that plan would tell you the same thing. Our purpose here on this earth is to learn and to grow. It is a place we must look to God and learn to be obedient. SOmetimes we will fall but we are promised that if we repent and are baptized then we to can become as God. A plan is a layout of what we are going to do and what is to come. God is perfect and glorified. We to can become perfect and glorified, and one day we to can have spirit children. As man now is God once was, and as God now is man may become. This is a perfect tie to learn about it. Go to lds.org to learn more.
  • A friend of mine was in Salt Lake singing with the Utah Symphony Orchestra and she brought home a pamphlet from the Temple that said the thing about the planets...why would they give that out if its not true? Just wondering...
  • First of all, our doctrines do not come from any books, scripture or otherwise. They come from a living prophet which then becomes scripture. And becomes binding on the whole Church when it is voted on by all the congregations of the Church, to accept it as scripture. But the voting must be unanimous among the General Authorities as well as the members. Now as to your question, this information is found among the writings of our prophets and Apostles. There is a song in our hymn book from which we sing every Sunday, called "If you could hie to Kolob"(No.284) (This song is only sung on rare occasions.) The first verse reads..."If you could hie to Kolob, in the twinkling of an eye, and then continue onward with that same speed to fly, do you think that you could ever through all Eternity, find out the generation where Gods began to be?" There are a number of verses to this song, but this should suffice as one source for this doctrine. The King Follett Discourse is another. I hope this helps...whew4
  • After reading this I hear in the background of my mind south park singing... Dum dum dum dum dum.
  • where ever it is,it's not true just like most if not all of their doctrin, God was never a man,He has always been God, not flesh and bone as we are but spirit. we will NOT be gods and we will not marry or be given in marraige in heaven. and no child birth. Mormons are deceived by a false gospel of self rather than the true gospel of Christ who died and was risen.
  • SHORT ANSWER: This doctrine (like several other LdS doctrines) can't be found in LdS Scripture. It's a construct from non-Canonical speeches and writing of Joseph Smith, General Conference speeches, non-Canonical LdS writings from present and past leaders, Mormon folklore, and cultural consensus within Mormonism - the latter two which, frankly, appear to carry MORE weight than all of the former combined. LONG ANSWER: This answer is from an honest and forthright Mormon blog. Which the reader will note that not a word or scrap of scripture is cited from in the answer - see my Short Answer above and my Bonus Answer as to why that is. "This question was put to me by a friend of mine (no, not the one with all the anti-Mormon questions). The answer is a “not really…well, sort of, I guess…well, I guess I can see why people would say that” type of answer. The quick answer is “No, we believe we get an entire universe” but even that would be misleading because the real answer is “We don’t know.” Allow me to explain, and prepare for your eyebrows to raise a little. Here it is in a nutshell. Mormons believe that human beings are children of God, and as such, have within them the potential to become like God. Got it? Let me say it more clearly. We believe that we can become Gods. Trust me, if you think about it and read the Bible from this perspective a lot of things will start to make sense. Just read Romans 8 where Paul says that we’re children of God and that we’re joint-heirs of God with Jesus Christ. In other words Christ is our brother and together with him we’re all heirs to what God has. What does God have? The kind of life a God lives. Here’s shocker #2–we believe God used to be a man, just like us. Now this brings up all sorts of logical and reasonable questions like “When did Gods begin then?” and “Is God the God of the entire universe or just part of it or are there other universes?” and “So there are other Gods then?” and the answer to all of these and many other questions is “We don’t know.” All we worry about is one God. But one of the questions that arises is “So what is God all about, and if we’re going to be like him then what do we go about doing after we die?” and the logical answer would be that if we become like God then we would create other planets like this one and populate them with our children, just like God has done with this one. And I’m guessing that’s where people would come up with the idea that Mormons believe they get a planet when they die. But as for me, I’m holding out for my own universe, although I’m sure it requires a bit of after-death training to run one." http://www.mormondna.org/mormon-beliefs/mormons-planet-die.html BONUS ANSWER: REGARDING THE ROMANS 8 PASSAGE: In the above citation Joshua Steimle glosses on Romans 8. I encourage the reader to use this link to actually READ Romans 8 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=romans%208&version=31. It's been said before and I will say it again: The ONLY way one can find the claims that Mormons see in the Bible is to: a) Take things out of context; b) Insert things into the Biblical text that isn't there; and c) Exalt LdS Theology over Biblical Authority. In other words you have to read the Bible with "Mormon Glasses" on. SUMMARY ANSWER: This doctrine is NOT in the Bible nor is it in LdS Scripture. Period.
  • No where. The LDS doctrine just grows and grows. Old doctrine is discarded while new doctrine is put in its place. Thats how fairy tails go, you have to keep the reader interested. +4
  • Many times a doctrine is not taught in it's entirety in one place, because for a correct understanding of it a brief couple of lines wouldn't work. These are truths we need to learn by looking at the overall picture. The nature of the God Head is a prime example, as is the doctrine you referance in your question. But it is in the very least strongly implied in the following: - "they shall pass by the angels, and the gods, which are set there, to their exaltation and glory in all things, as hath been sealed upon their heads, which glory shall be a fulness and a continuation of the seeds forever and ever. Then shall they be gods, because they have no end; therefore shall they be from everlasting to everlasting, because they continue; then shall they be above all, because all things are subject unto them. Then shall they be gods, because they have all power, and the angels are subject unto them. Verily, verily, I say unto you, except ye abide my law ye cannot attain to this glory." Doctrine and Covenants 132:19-21 - The "continuation of the seeds" was understood at the time of the revelation, and has been repeatedly varified, to mean the ability to have spirit children. Following the divine pattern these spirit children are born for the intent that they come to a planet (not our earth D&C 77:1; 130:4-5) to gain bodies and progress as we have done before them. - So if our earth is going to become a "sea of glass" and our spirit children need to come to an earth than obviously a new planet needs to be made for them. Now if we have "all power" and "all things are subject" to us. Why wouldn't we be the ones who create these planets? - I hope this helps, if you would like additional referances I can provide some from the mormon scriptures (Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price, and Holy Bible.)
  • We are told time and again in scripture that we are children of God, and that we can become heirs, and joint heirs with Christ to all that the Father hath. . In short, we can grow up to be just like our Father; Gods and Goddesses. As such we don't expect to "get" our own planets to populate; we expect to CREATE them, just as our Father does, worlds without end.
