Possibly. It depends on whether or not you are using Macs or PCs, or a combination or the two. If you're using 2 Macs, then there probably wouldn't be any jealousy or insecurity, especially if you're up to speed with Mac OSX. If you're using 2 PC's, then the answer becomes "maybe". You have to take into account that while a desktop is generally faster, less likely to overheat (which will cause the system to slow down and crash) and is usually more powerful than a laptop, they also tend towards being rather self-conscious about their girdth when compared to their slimmer, lighter and (oftentimes) sexier portable counterparts. For instance, if your desktop sees you set that sweet, new HP or Alienware laptop that's all tricked out with running lights and slick style on the desk next to it and you start banging out your blog on Britney and K-Fed that you would have normally done on the desktop, then the next time you try to run TurboTax on the desktop, it might cry out for your attention by glitching up your tax returns, resulting in a nasty, expensive and drawn-out audit from the IRS! And if you're using one of each.... heaven forbid!... then my friend, you walk where angels fear to tread! It also sort of depends on the OS you are using, whether it is Mac OS, Windows or Linux. Think of these operating systems like mood stabilizers: Mac OS is like taking Prozac with Elavil and Zanax. You're very stable, maybe even a little boring. Windows is like getting in with a clinical drug trial for new, stab-in-the-dark, yet highly advertised and promoted treatments that usually require constant expert intervention to fix, repair and patch... not to mention the myriad of targeted attacks from viruses, trojans and worms (oh my!). With Linux, you're usually self-medicating with a grab-bag of uppers, downers, psychedelics and some yet-to-be identified compounds. Bottom line: If you want to keep harmony in your relationship with your good, hardworking desktop machine, do what I do... keep them in separate rooms!
