  • PLEASE check out my page on Spoof Phishing Scams at http://www.orangefrogproductions.com/ofp2s_scams_spoofphishing_home.shtml and the links there. (No... This is NOT Spam... I don't make money on my site.)
  • The status bar won't necessarilly do it. I'm a Certified Fraud Examiner and licensed PI. One of the biggest tip offs is if they fail to address you by name.
  • Not everybody knows this. That is why scams are successful. Some people who use the computer know even less than I do about it, and have no inhouse guru to protect them.
  • I do. Not that I need it right now..
  • I would think this is a big fat DUH!, but there are obviously people out there who don't understand or we wouldn't be swamped in all that phishing cr*p. I don't bother with anything but going to the official website for institutions I routinely bank with anyway, including responses to any email notifications they may send me. Anyone else is an automatic delete for me. And I don't trust the status bar, either. I've gotten hokey input from suspicious links with that.
  • We are talking about a society that doesn't realize that coffee may be hot and that spilling it may cause injury. A populace that never got their VCR clocks to stop flashing 12:00. That thinks Paris Hilton is totally hot; you'd think that with all of that money, she'd be able to buy a decent nose. How many PC users (percentage-wise) can even install their own OS? Come to think of it, how many can even figure percentages? You are asking a lot from people. Don't expect them all to be smart. I expect it from less than half.
  • yes, that's an excellent tip!
  • I've always said - access to the internet should only be granted after proper training on computer / network security and identity theft. I know a lot of people have slammed me for that attitude, but Jerv is right, people just don't know (or care to know).
