  • Yes, that's a pet peeve of mine. I always turn the radio down when I hear a siren to see if it's real. Also, I think honking noises should be banned as well.
  • It's not a Q of whether or not the radio stations should stop playing the ads. I think it's the producers' responsibility is to precede the sound with an announcement similar to "This is an advertisement" THEN sound the siren and continue the commercial. The reason: A co-worker and I were in the car. We were returning from digging a ditch for the footers for an addition to a home. "Jimmy" (Not his real name) was driving. An ad came on. To get out of the way he swerved to the right AND ALMOST drove off the road. ALL that aggravation for a lousy ad/commercial - on the radio. Sometimes, some people sit on their brains. Thanks for asking your Q! I enjoyed answering it! VTY, Ron Berue Yes, that is my real last name! Sources: Because you asked. • Sorry, to use another answer, but this wouldn't post as a "Comment". NOYFB: Sorry! It doesn't quite work that way. 1] FIRST: someone or many people have to be killed or injured. 2] THEN one of those folks who were injured or a member of the deceased person's family has to begin "the wheels of justice rolling" by writing their representatives and elected officials. MAYBE a kawsuit is started about the same time. 3] THEN the news media sees a story and brings it to light. 4] THEN "the powers that be" start doing something: They order studies to be conducted, have hearings, write laws and statutes, etc. BUT the producers of the radio programs and producers of the commercials, "get their ducks lined-up", too! They have lobbyists, experts and attorneys who present THEIR side of the that situation. 5] AND it goes on and on - back and forth. C0ourt case and appearances and appeals and appeals. THEN MAYBE those laws are enacted. I'm sure you remember how John Walsh "got on the bandwagon" and started things happening. For those who might not know and who read this, I'll provide a "thumbnail sketch" - JUST an ovgerview. I don't know the exact timelines. In the 80's John Walsh was married to a lady. They had a son named "Adam". One day Adam didn't come home. Search parties were started. For days and weeks, there weren't any results. Not a body found. No sign of Adam. Then someone found the remains. John Walsh had to identify the remains of his son. Then the manhunt started for the monster who did it. Eventually he was found, brought to trial and convicted of the murder. During that period of time, Mr. Walsh decided to bring as much attention as he possibly could to the situation which was facing his family. With a team of others they started "America's Most Wanted" - AMW. They presented Adam's case. - and a few others. The situation "snowballed". They got LOTS of leads and caught a few creeps who committed those crimes. Eventually, the producers were BOMBARDED with requests for exposure on the air. Even the FBI used AMW for high profile cases. "The rest as they say is history." BUT I THINK it was 10 to 15 years between the times AMW first presented Adam's case and the time when "Adam's Law" officially became and was enacted into law as "Adam's Law". AND THAT'S THE WAY THE REAL WORLD works - today and for a very long time to come. FIRST the tragedy HAS TO HAPPEN. THEN someone has to take action AND stick with it! Others should get on-board. Eventually it has a life of it's own - almost. THEN MAYBE the right thing is done. Thank you for your kind words! I do my best to provide helpful answers. I'm very happy you awarded those points! Thanks for boosting my spirit! You REALLY helped to make my day much better! :-) :-) :-) :-) Very Truly Yours, Ron Berue :-) :-) :-) :-)
