Herpes is only infectious when the sores are active. If you aren't having sex during outbreaks then the virus won't be passed on. Alternatively it is quite possible that your husband does have the virus, but has not yet had an outbreak- not everyone who carries the virus suffers from the sores, and not everyone who suffers from the sores suffers at the same frequency. If the immune system is healthy and you are eating a good diet outbreaks will often be very minimal.

You can actually pass the std when you don't have sores present...its called viral shedding

you have to have an outbreak to pass it, but you may have a minor outbreak and not know it. use condoms to be safe, and go on Valtrex
