Yeah. They're kind of like a well stuck bandaid: either a sharp pain by whipping it off quickly, or slowly yank at it. I prefer the fast and sharp approach. Either way, goodbyes suck.

My best friend lives in another state and once every 4 or 5 months he comes my way .. I usually have to drive 3 hours each way to see him and I dread seeing him.. but I love it too. but everytime I say "good bye" I cry all night and I go into this deep depression for days. That may sound silly but you have to understand our friendship and my past. He's the kind of friend that no matter what kind of day you have, he just makes it all better. and it kills me to say good bye.. most of these answers were death related so I may have gotten your meaning all wrong.. if I did, sorry
