  • I actually moved 18 miles to be closer to my job and my kids' school. Cut from a tank every two days to every two weeks in my Pontiac Grand Am.
  • I take my lunch to work. I use to drive home. I live about 10mi away with no traffic so I would have about a half hour to relax at home but I was using too much gas. It has saved me about a half a tank a week too.
  • I plan better, when I am running errands, try to get as much done at once, as possible. I dont take too many frivolous trips anymore.
  • 1) Avoiding Ethanol whenever possible - http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/857565 2) Using the wife's car to go into town; she gets 30 MPG to my 23.5 3) Stock up at the supermarket. It's a 16 mile/25 minute drive. Fewer trips saves gas 4) Do our shopping on laundry day. We're in town anyways so why not? 5) Run my tires about 4PSI above the manufacturer's recommendation. There are a number of reasons why, not least of which is that I use different tires than the ones that Subaru originally installed, but the net effect is a slight gain in MPG due to lower rolling resistance. Oddly, many mechanics I've heard are recommending this NOW, yet I've been doing it for a decade.
